Ever since the Uri attacks took place in Kashmir, our artists, Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan and Ali Zafar suffered a delay in their projects. Where the likes of Karan Johar did not agree to the ban imposed, another name who supported Johar was Mahesh Bhatt. And recently with Pakistan deciding to lift the self imposed ban on Indian movies being shown in cinemas, Bhatt too voiced his opinion stating that the ban on Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan working for India should be lifted as well.
Mahesh Bhatt, the renowned Bollywood director-producer, has always been a strong advocate of Pakistani talent and cross border collaborations. He also has fans and friends on both sides of the border. Last year he was invited to Lahore by Humayun Saeed when his film Jaawani Phir Nahi Ani was releasing, and Mahesh Bhatt came to wish the entire team.
Hence, when the ban was imposed, the director and producer was not too happy with the decision. According to Mid–day, Bhatt feels the Indian government needs to deal with terrorism in a different way and India should reciprocate by lifting the ban on Pakistani artists.
“The idea of it could incur the wrath of political parties," said Mahesh Bhatt. "The Central government has to come up with a solution, if they wish to rebuild relations razed to the ground prior to the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. In my opinion, cultural space must be kept alive"
Mahesh Bhatt may be trying hard to get the ban lifted, but so far, we don't see any white flags from across the border.
