Ahmed Shehzad, whose stock has plummeted in the recent times, got a massive boost as he was retained in the T20 squad to face New Zealand. The squad primarily consist of the same players as the ODI squad, as only 2 changes can be seen, Azhar Ali and Imam ul Haq have been replaced by Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Amin. Meanwhile, Imad Wasim is yet to recover from the knee injury and is continuing his rehab in the National Cricket Academy.
Ahmed Shehzad has shown excellent form in the on-going Departmental tournament, scoring over 400 runs in 7 innings, with a healthy strike rate of 100. It will be interesting to see if Umar Amin continues as the opener having scored a decent 40 in the last T20 international or the tour selection committee goes with Ahmed Shehzad. However, unlike Shehzad, impressive performance of Kamran Akmal did not earn him a recall to the T20 side. There was suggestions that Sohaib Maqsood may also be given a chance but he will have to wait for another series.
The 3 match T20 series kicks off from the 22nd of January.
The whole squad consists of the following players. Squad: Sarfraz Ahmed (capt &wk), Fakhar Zaman, Ahmed Shehzad, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Haris Sohail, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf, Aamer Yamin, Mohammad Amir, Hasan Ali, Rumman Raees, Umar Amin
