Last season was a tough one for Islamabad United. They had lost their star opener, Sharjeel Khan and middle order batsman, Khalid Latif. Both had made comebacks in the Pakistan team based on their PSL 1 performance. We all know what happened in PSL 2. Islamabad also lost Andre Russell due to drug testing issues with the core players gone in flash. Islamabad somehow managed to reach the qualifier but perished.

With the cricket squad comprising of immense local talent, it was supposed to be different this year. The likes of Farhan Shahzada, Hussain Talat and Faheem Asharaf could relish more chances despite their unimpressive start as a team.

The situation got worse when their vice captain, and perhaps most important bowler, Rumman Raees damaged his knee while trying to slide in the sluggish Sharjah outfield. It was a terrible sight for any cricket fan.

While the initial worries have been eased off a little at present, a clear picture is yet to emerge. One really hopes that the left-armer recovers soon.
