Depicting the life of Noble Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, Gul Makai’s poster is out and it’s nothing less than awe-striking.
The first look of Gul Makai has Reem Sheikh – portraying Malala’s character – holding a burning book. Kabir Bedi’s voice is booming in the background that says, “This is about those times when the Taliban were destroying Pakistan and Afghanistan in the name of Jihad and religion. When from a very small village in Pakistan, a voice arose.”
“Gul Makai accounts the courageous journey and struggle of Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, from her humble upbringing in the Swat Valley to her becoming the champion for free education to all. Gul Makai is a small tribute to this lion-hearted girl who is in every essence a global citizen championing a cause that transcends boundaries, caste, religion and geography,” says the official synopsis of Gul Makai – a pseudonym Malala used while writing blogs for BBC Urdu during Taliban rule.
Shot in Kashmir, the movie is directed by Amjad Khan who says he has tried to honor the brave girl from the Swat Valley for standing up against oppression and for education. The cast of Gul Makai includes Divya Dutta, (late) Om Puri, Mukesh Rishi, Abhimanyu Singh and Ajaz Khan alongside Reem Sheikh.
