Cake Wins Best Feature Fiction Award at the South Asian Film Festival Montreal

Seems like Aamina Sheikh-Sanam Saeed starrer Cake is on a continuous spree of winning awards and there’s no stopping it. This time the Asim Abbasi directorial has scored a victory at the 8th South Asian Film Festival Montreal as the Best Feature Fiction.

In documentary category, Salam The First ****** Laureate a joint venture of Pakistani, Indian and American team won the award. The movie based on the life of Pakistani Nobel Prize winner scientist Abdus Salam, is produced by Omar Vandal and Zakir Thavir, both of whom are based in U.S.

Cake is also Pakistan’s Oscar nomination for the year 2019 in the category of ‘Best Foreign Language Film’. Earlier the film was the first ever Pakistani film to have a worldwide premiere in London, and then its director Asim Abbasi also won the award for best director at UK Asian Film Festival. Additionally, Cake also stood out at the Tasveer South Asian Film Festival as the Best Narrative Feature for the Audience Choice Award.

Revolving around lives of two sisters and their perceptions regarding relationships and family, the film stars Aamina, Sanam and Adnan Malik in lead roles. A Zulfi Bukhari production, the film is a comedy-drama genre that caters to family oriented audiences in the country and abroad.

Cake becomes The First Pakistani Movie To Have A World Premiere In London's West End

Looks like there’s a lot more victories coming Cake’s way and we do hope that like all other festivals it has been showcased at, the movie also wins big at the Oscars. For now HIP congratulates team Cake for the SAFFM victory.
