With more and more events taking place in the city, residents of the Karachi are now eagerly working to portray the soft and peaceful image of not only Karachi but Pakistan. We've managed to create peace in Karachi and one of the many solid examples of this effort is the launch of Karachi Biennale, an art event to be held in the City of Lights. The first edition of Biennale took place in 2017 under the theme of ‘WITNESS’ with more than 100 artists participated in the event.
The initiative was set to take place every two years hence Karachi Biennale is back with a different but a strong theme ‘ECOLOGY’. It was announced by the managing trustee of the Karachi Biennale Trust Ms. Niilofur Farrukh at a press meet on Saturday evening. The press meetup took place at the late architect Habib Fida Ali’s residence. Fida Ali was an amazing artist and trustee of KB. Addressing the occasion Ms. Niilofur Farrukh said, “What better place to launch KB19 than Fida Ali’s home. This beautifully preserved corner of Karachi reminds us how life can be without environmental hazards.”
Moreover, the details of the awards which will be given at the Biennale were also told at the occasion. The awards include award for the artist with the best entry; a lifetime achievement award for an artist, art critic, the award for an emerging artist under the age of 30; public choice art prize; art historian or art educator with an outstanding career spanning four decades; and a performance art award.
KB19 will take place at venues including the Frere Hall and Bagh Ibn Qasim featuring performances not only by local but international artists as well.
