Darren Sammy is often defined as a leader of men. His record as captain speaks for itself. However, at times his astuteness or tactical nous could be questioned. Peshawar Zalmi has a very settled and talented squad, so these mistakes are often overseen. However, in crunch games these issues could come back to haunt them.

For example, so far in the PSL, Liam Dawson hasn’t once completed his quota of overs. He has bowled 3 overs twice, and 2 overs thrice. There has been a single over and no show appearance with the ball for Dawson. Wickets, friendly to spin and generally playing with just one spinner, in some losses this has been a factor. It is not like Dawson has been going for too many runs.

Faheem Ashraf’s over of mayhem lands Zalmi’s their win

While with the bat, Dawson has won a game for Peshawar, he could do a lot more with the ball. Ibtisam Sheikh has been given only limited opportunities. Therefore, there might come a time where 2 to 3 overs of spinners would be required. With little cricket of the highest level taking place in Karachi, how the pitches would behave, is not certain. Zalmi could do well in giving Dawson a chance to get used to the wickets. It could prove pivotal as we approach the business end of the tournament.
