Lyari Produces yet Another Brilliant Rapper

Pakistani hip-hop is a genre gaining more popularity now with more and more artists publicly displaying their talents. The rap scene in Lyari is already pretty happening, with Patari releasing tracks like “The Players of Lyari” by the Lyari Underground along with other captivating tunes.
Patari also just released a new rap song called “Gully Girls” sung by a teenaged girl EvaB. The artist is a rapper from the streets of *Lyari* who works underground under the pseudonym EvaB. She recorded her own catchy version of the song “Apna Time Aayega” from Gully Boy in collaboration with Zari Faisal. The rap song starts with the lyrics “Jab Zindagi apni hai, Tou marzi doosron ki kyun hai” and we think all women everywhere can most definitely relate to that line alone. The song is a feminist anthem for women who are oppressed by society and all its patriarchal values.
She operates under a fake name because her family has not given her permission to rap so she does so secretly. Apparently, Eva_B recorded this song on her phone hiding in her cupboard. *Patari* introduces the song calling it about her dreams.
The song was also played at the end of the Aurat March in Karachi on the 8th of March, International Women’s Day in Karachi, as the young girl could not perform it live.
It's 2019, and it is disheartening to see that women still can not showcase their talents publicly because of societal and cultural restraints.
We hope Eva_B inspires other girls to explore their talents and produce great work like she has. Girl power!
