While they are equally talented and beautiful, Alia Bhatt and Sanam Saeed are poles apart in every way. However, there is one thing in common between them; versatility in their acting. They both have the ability to put their own twist to every character they play. They bring grace and finesse to every role. Although there are no two ways about their talent, it was interesting to know that Alia Bhatt drew inspiration from Sanam Saeed to prepare for her role in Kalank.
Directed by Abhishek Varman and Produced by Karan Johar, the film is a period drama set in pre-independence British era in 1945. The multi-starrer cast includes Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, and Aditya Roy Kapoor. While she watched old films like Umrao Jaan and Mughal-e-Azam to understand the body language and grace of that era, her director suggested her to watch Zindagi Gulzar Hai. The idea behind it was to understand the complexity of Alia’s character, Roop, which is quite similar to Kashaf. Played brilliantly by Sanam Saeed, Kashaf was a multi-layered character who was strong and vulnerable at the same time. Kashaf is one of the most popular and relatable characters to date. According to Alia, observing Sanam Saeed as Kashaf helped her understand the multi-layered nature of the character.
After finding out this news, Sanam Saeed took to Twitter to express her delight and wished Alia best of luck. While Kashaf is a timeless character and Sanam Saeed’s prowess made it a masterpiece, it will be interesting to see how Alia Bhatt portrays a similar character. The film is set to release on 17th April.
