Ustaad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has made Pakistan proud throughout his magical journey of soulful music. And now, the renowned Pakistani artist is yet to receive an honorary degree from Oxford University on 26th June, Wednesday.

The legendary qawwal has already reached the United Kingdom to receive the honorary degree — Doctor of Music — from Oxford University.

In March, the esteemed institute announced the names of eight people, including the very talented Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who will be receiving the degree this year. Oxford University announced the names on its official website.

The prestigious institute writes about our National treasure as quoted: “Born into a family whose name has become synonymous with South Asian musical tradition, he began formal training at the age of seven and has since released more than fifty albums, performed in numerous high-profile concerts across the world, and amassed a global following, achieving over one billion views online.

In a statement, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan said: “I am honoured to be accepting this degree from Oxford University, a world-famous educational institution. This will be a very special day for my family and I, but also for my fans, who have shared this journey with me. To be presented with this honour is a massive achievement and I am happy that my music has allowed me to reach such incredible heights.

According to the reports, Khan will also perform at the Oxford Town Hall on 27th June and the funds from the event will be donated to the enhancement of the Faculty of Music’s Sounds of South Asia series.

In 2016, Khan was also presented with a lifetime achievement award by Oxford University and became the first Pakistani to receive this honour. With more than 50 title tracks of television serials and over 100 film songs in Bollywood and beyond to his name, the Internationally recognized singer is on the journey to achieve another milestone.
