The Saboor Aly and Kinza Hashmi starrer Gul o Gulzar has garnered the audience’s attention with its unique storyline. Written by Hassan Umer and produced by Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Nasib, the drama also stars Omer Shahzad, Firdous Jamal, Nayyar Ejaz, and Shaista Jabeen in pivotal roles.

The first two episodes were enough to give us a clear picture of what goes on in Gul and Gulzar’s life. Gul played by Saboor Aly and Gulzar played by Kinza Hashmi are two inseparable friends who are poles apart. Gul is an extremely materialistic girl who doesn’t have any goals in life, other than to marry a rich guy somehow. Gulzar, on the other hand, is a nerdy, goody-two-shoes who is naïve enough to see the kind of person Gul really is. She does her best to help Gul in all her various mess-ups, and this toxic friendship dynamic is kind of hard to swallow.

Saboor Aly does a good job as Gul, with her timely eye rolls and well-balanced performance. She brings out the essence of Gul with her acting, a selfish girl who doesn’t seem to care about anyone other than herself and uses everyone for her own good. Saboor Aly has managed to pull off some negative roles in the past as well, and she does it as well as she tackles her positive characters. Her versatility shines through as she plays this new character extremely well.

Till now, Gul and Gulzar doesn’t seem to be your typical drama. The script brings a new take on the class dynamics and has managed to keep us guessing about where the story would really go.
