Here, the director talks to HIP about how he controlled the young energy packed dynamic cast of the upcoming rom-com Heer Maan Ja and shares a lot with us, read on...
You have been associated with IRK Films for a long time now, after Siyaah, Janaan, Parchi and now Heer Maan Ja, how was the whole experience?
Azfar Jafri: Well, working with IRK is like family, and the reason is 'Siyaah' we literally started off with 4 people altogether and we have faced a lot! and with that bond, we went through Janaan and then Parchi and we are still going... And I am waiting for a lot more to come!
Cinema is a universal medium. Do you think academic training is important for directing a film?
Azfar: No, I think you need to make films in order to learn films, academically yes, you can learn the ROPs (rules of procedures), the techniques and everything, but honestly when you practice those things, then where you realise how to utilise those techniques, and why you should use them.
Did you face any challenges throughout?
Azfar: (laughs) I am a Telecom Engineer myself, but I have made so many short films before that, Imran met a lot of directors before me, but when we met we connected instantly, because I always wanted to make a "film", together we faced challenges and everyone does, when they start with a venture. But Alhamdullilah here we are now, and we are firm!
What makes Heer Maan Ja different? ONE WORD!
Azfar: Well, its "people's film"
Heer Maan Ja will be releasing this Eid-ul-Azha and we are excited for it to come out as Azfar Jafri mentioned its a people's film! We wish the team HMJ a good luck!
