Angeline Malik, a Producer, Director and also an actor has always been vocal about social issues in the society. Not only that, she tries to make content highlighting the issues not many would touch on. It is empowering having women like her in the industry.
Recently, Angeline shared a post on facebook in which she brought light to another issue that's deeply rooted especially in the industry, not many talk about it thus no implementation is ever done. She spoke about protecting women in the entertainment industry at all levels with the hashtag #InkaarKaro.
The post reads, “If we wanna talk about protecting women then let us DO IT. Let us protect the superstar as well as every other woman from that extra at Rs1000 per day, who is exploited at every level by the spot boy to the director and they are the ones to be paid at the last.” She added, “A common practice within all production houses and the curse words they have to hear every day.. Words I cannot repeat. Let us talk about that. Let us protect our women at every level. This fight is not among us but for us.”
Speaking about the campaign, Angeline said: “This initiative ‘Inkaar Karo, Hum Tumhare Saath Hain’ says a lot. I have heard many stories and seen a lot due to the nature of my work. It’s hard to say no and it is even harder to speak up and make people believe you. I have brought together a group of strong women who feel the same as I do and we altogether want to convey the message that we hear you, we believe you and we will support you.”
This is truely an eye opener, especially after the #metoo movement, this initiative to the movement was also needed in Pakistan. Now women can voice their issues and there would be hope for justice.
