Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan formally inaugurated the Kartarpur Corridor on Saturday 9th November 2019. The corridor connects the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India’s Punjab with Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur, just 4.7 Km from the Pakistan-India border, located at Narowal district of Pakistan’s Punjab province.
The historic act has now paved the way for Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit one of their religion’s holiest sites in Pakistan without a visa.
The inauguration ceremony graced by the presence of several Sikh Pilgrims across the border. It was also attended by former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, actor Sunny Deol, and ex-PM India Manmohan Singh. Where Sidhu was all praises for our beloved PM, the Sikh pilgrims could not contain their happiness.
Following the inauguration, Imran Khan received immense praise from not only the world over but the entire nation as well. Celebrities in Pakistan have been tweeting congratulating Imran Khan and drawing a vast comparison between Pakistan and India, where the Supreme Court, passed another historic verdict allowing Babri Masjid to be demolished and built into a temple in India.
From Pakistan's leading lady in the film industry Mahira Khan to the ex-cricketer Shoaib Akhtar, celebrities have shown support to the government.
Feeling so proud of my country as we open the #KartarpurCorridor Let there be peace, tolerance, love, and respect for all. @ImranKhanPTI Respect! This is Iqbal’s Pakistan, tweeted Mahira.
Shoaib Akhtar responded to this inauguration saying: I welcome the Sikh brethren to Pakistan. #KartarpurCorridor is a road to peace & religious harmony. Beautiful scenes at the opening of the corridor. I can see the priceless happiness on the faces. Special contribution of @ImranKhanPTI & @sherryontopp is highly appreciated.
Many other celebs such as Mehwish Hayat, Mawra Hocane, Gohar Rasheed, Nadia Jamil, and Veena Malik congratulated Imran Khan for making all of this possible shortly after becoming the PM.
