The performances of Mohammad Amir and Shan Masood in the Test series have not gone unnoticed as both have been rewarded with a place in the ODI squad picked for the South African series. Amir has picked 8 wicket across 3 and a bit innings, while Masood is the top scorer of the series.
"Amir's good performance in the Test series not only made him an automatic selection, but also helped us in the decision to rest Abbas," Inzamam-ul-Haq, the chief selector, said.
Mohammad Rizwan has been included on the back of stellar Pakistan A performances. While, Junaid Khan, who had picked 4 wickets in his 2nd last international game has been dropped as selectors are not happy with his fitness. Junaid Khan, however did play in the National T20 cup held last month.
The Asif Ali experiment as a late order hitter has been done away with as well after a string of poor performances in ODIs. The Islamabad United man had also participated in Mzansi Super League for the Cape Town Blitz and average a paltry 16. While his strike rate was 182, most of his runs came in one match winning knock of 80. He did show some form in the National T20, but the selectors didn’t risk him against the South African pace attack. His place has gone to budding all-rounder Hussain Talat.
"Junaid Khan has not been considered for this tour because we feel he has to work more on his bowling since the fitness issues that he had cut short his series against New Zealand. Asif Ali has been dropped due to an inconsistent and below-par performance. In his place, we have decided to give Hussain Talat an opportunity to show his mettle and skills. He is a good left-handed batsman, who can also bowl." Added Inzamam ul Haq.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, who has impressed with his pace in the Big Bash League is back in the side. Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Amir and Usman Khan make the pace attack while, Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim provide the spin options.
However, before the ODI series, the 3rd and final test is set to start on Friday, this week.
