You’d think that a fashion faux pas is the biggest sin a designer would be worrying about, but in the era of social media, you can’t get away with the low-key problematic and high-key snobbish comments that you’d usually make at dinner parties. There is a responsibility that comes with being “famous” and “privileged” in this age, and it might be easy for you to forget that but there is no need to worry, social media is here to remind you and keep you in check.

Most recently, famed fashion designer Zara Shahjahan really put her foot in her mouth with her highly problematic and “elitist” tweet that started a trolling session for her on twitter. The designer started a hashtag #LetsBeHonest and looks like she forgot she wasn’t surrounded by her elite friends but by actual people who can’t relate to her snobbish tweet.

It would be safe to say that her tweet didn’t sit well with Pakistani twitter. The sassy sarcastic replies soon started pouring in. Some people really came with the receipts. For her lawn suits, of course.

Nutella, French Cheese, and Mcdonald’s too?!

Someone out there is definitely looking out for her. They’re not wrong.

Eventually, the designer did come around and “apologized” for her elite tweet while she was getting dragged by the whole of Pakistani twitter.

While the economy might be crumbling, comparing the economic conditions of the poor with the rich is definitely a #richpeopleproblem that we could never understand. If you want to survive in the world of social media, you need to own it up and check your privilege if you don’t want to end up on thin ice. Though it looks like Zara Shahjahan has learned her lesson.
