'It is about time that we start addressing these issues and what I ask for is a fair portrayal if not a positive one'
One of the most sought after actress in the past couple of years happens to be Mehwish Hayat who has successfully given back to back hits as far as Pakistani Cinema is concerned. With her amazing performance in Movies like Punjab Nahi Jaongi and Load Wedding to name a few even in television, Mehwish left everyone stunned by playing a strong female character in Dillagi opposite Humayun Saeed. With her latest movie Chhalawa which released last Eid, Hayat also received the Sitar -e-Imtiaz and recently was honored with the pride of performance award in Norway which made us very proud of the star.
But the reason why we are talking about here today is that after Mahira Khan we are glad to see an actress speak so well at international platforms as recently Mehwish appeared on the morning show for sky news where we felt what she spoke actually made a lot of sense.
Talking about the negative portrayal of Pakistanis in both Hollywood and Bollywood films, the much-loved actress said,
'Unfortunately, this has been going on for some time, and has actually fuelled the rise of islamophobia as films and cinemas actually have the power to build attitudes and mindsets and showing Pakistanis as backward terrorists has effected us greatly'.
With her opening up about how people would often lay down untrue assumptions as soon as they would find out she was a Pakistani, Mehwish further added,
'We are not what is portrayed in films and because cinema has the power to build that kind of image which is very strong I think it is about time that we start addressing these issues and what I ask for is a fair portrayal if not a positive one than at least a fair one where do your research and see what we are'.
Agreeing with all that she had to say we do hope that her words are implemented upon very soon and we see Mehwish continuing to make us proud even in the coming years.
