With ten-episode down, Neeli Zinda Hai on Ary Digital is running strong! An uncertain chain of events dominates the drama and suspense remains in the air.

Questions keep buzzing in the minds of the viewers and we are still unaware of the real reason behind Neeli’s imprint on the earth. Starring Urwa Hocane, Mohib Mirza, Sonia Mishaal, and Jinaan Hussain in leading roles, the drama is directed by Qasim Ali Mureed, written by Adeel Razzaq, and produced by Six Sigma.

Let’s take a quick review of what has happened so far in the drama in the past couple of episodes.

Neeli wrecks more havoc

Our witch Neeli (Urwa Hocane) in the drama is no doubt a stunner. She has bewitching eyes but her intentions are to create chaos in the lives of Sumbul (Sonia Mishal), Amaan (Mohib Mirza), their daughter Minal (Tehreem), and their house-help, Nagina (Jinaan Hussain).

Amaan doesn’t believe Nagina when she hysterically tries to convince him that Neeli attacked her while she was sleeping. However, the maid has persuaded Sumbul that the house is haunted and Minal can see the ghost that has generated a massive bedlam in their home.

On the other hand, Amaan certainly believes that his wife has lost her marbles. Now that Neeli appears out of thin air to creep Sumbul out, he is certain that she is mentally disturbed and being dramatic to seek attention.

More upheaval erupts as Amaan’s father and sister, Aliya pay a sudden visit to their home. The presence of guests doesn’t stop Neeli from revealing herself in front of Minal and Sumbul. During a game of hide-and-seek, the demon appears in front of the child as a blindfolded Aliya vies to win the game.

Things take a new turn after Amaan’s father divulges to Sumbul that his wife, Mehrbano (Kinza Malik) is using the influence of black magic to break her marriage with Amaan. Our heroine is now shaken by this new revelation and now hates her mother-in-law even more. She tells this to Nagina who eventually guides her to seek the help of Dilawar, the hermit, who is guiding the maid to control Neeli.

Poor Minal suffers the most from the paranormal activities at home. Neeli has taken over the special child, haunting her every time she is alone and making it certain that their connection is now unbreakable. She possesses her body to get rid of the protection Nagina has planted outside the home. The ghostly takeover ultimately affects Minal’s weak body. She gets sick with her mother frightened to the core after witnessing the whole supernatural saga.

In another twist of events, Amaan gets threatened by the land mafia to leave the plot that he has bought. The goons claim that they own the land and it’s better for Amaan and his family to vacate it as soon as possible. Does it have to anything with Neeli’s death, we are predicting that it surely does.

Top-notch performances make Neeli Zinda Hai a winner

The entire cast of Neeli Zinda Hai deserves mighty applause for keeping their acting on-point. Mohib Mirza and Sonia Mashal are phenomenal in their characters, as they keep the aggression, frustration, and terror on their face as their role demands.

Urwa Hocane’s freckled make-over and hauntingly beautiful blue eyes can hypnotize you. Her gaze alone can mystify you and she conveys it all sans any expression on her face. It's indeed a new avatar for her and so far, she is doing justice to the character of Neeli.

But it is Jinaan Hussain we are most addicted to. We love how effortlessly she has donned the role of the innocent, naive house-help who is willing to save the residents of the haunted house at the risk of her own life. We find her accent quite cute and quirky as she maintains it throughout her portrayal of Nagina.

One thing that concerned us was the not-so-needed slap by Amaan as he tries to bring Nagina to her senses. The next week’s promo shows Amaan yet again hitting his wife as she tries to convince him of the paranormal activity in their home.

The truth is that Pakistani dramas are still far away from the concept of not depicting domestic violence in the plot. A hit on the face of any female character remains a must for any drama on our screens.

When will this trend die down? Only time will tell!
