Ek Jhoota Lafz Mohabbat on Express Entertainment had been teasing us with its promos for quite some time. Its heart-rendering OST by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan too has created a massive buzz on social media. The drama dropped its first episode yesterday and began with a powerful start as its teasers promised!

The drama is penned by Mamoona Aziz and has been produced by Fahad Mustafa and Dr. Ali Kazmi under Big Bang Entertainment. Syed Zeeshan Ali Zaidi has taken the director’s seat for the story.

With a competent unconventional cast of Amna Ilyas, Junaid Khan, Emmad Irfani, and the rising star Ayeza Awan; the drama has a never seen before cast and brings something fresh to our screen.

The plot looks equally potent and discusses an important issue - the pressure faced by men when they have low salaries. Let’s do a quick review of Ek Jhoota Lafz Mohabbat’s first episode and why we found it a must-watch!

Of Relationships, Love, and Money

The drama opens on a sweet note as we are introduced to the softness of Aliza (Amna Ilyas)- a dutiful daughter, a humble person, and a protective sister. Apparently, she got divorced before her ‘rukhsati’ but fought in the name of adversity and strengthened her career instead.

Her sister Arisha (Ayeza Awan) is a materialistic person, who dreams of getting rich and wants all the wealth in the world for herself. So much so, she gives a tough time to her loving cousin and fiancée, Maaz, (Junaid Khan) who is struggling to build his career but ensures he provides her with the best in his meager salary.

The scene where Arisha taunts him for not being able to afford a branded jewelry set for her, showed us the bitter side of society i.e. how men are often pressurized to provide all luxury when they are already working relentlessly to provide for their families. Even worse was when she threw away Maaz’s gift in the garbage for being local and not branded. Later, we see that Maaz finally avails a good job. There is a moment of merriment in their house as his mom (Shagufta Aijaz) visits Arisha’s parents (Sajid Hasan and Saima Qureshi) to finalize their wedding date.

Everyone is excited but Arisha has other plans on her mind. She calls Maaz amidst all happiness and tells him that she cannot marry him.

Apparently, our money-oriented heroine goes to a birthday party last night where she meets a dashing, rich man, played by Emmad Irfani. Looking like a million bucks in a dress gifted by her friend, Arisha catches the spotlight at the gathering- especially of the handsome mystery man who is instantly charmed by her.

The promo of the next episode shows Arisha half-heartedly agreeing to marry Maaz. But will she marry him? We are truly doubtful of this!

A topic smartly addressed

In most Pakistani dramas, we mostly address societal matters targeted towards women. Ek Jhoota Lafz Mohabbat stands out for speaking against an issue that needs much attention. We often hear how good, competent men often get rejected because of their low salaries. Junaid Khan’s character will face just that in the story. The actor has done a tremendous job in portraying the expressions of helplessness and pain on his face when the love of his life rebukes him for being poor and middle-class.

Ayeza Awan has turned out to be one fierce firecracker as Arisha. She has already made us hate her character and the credit goes to the actress. With those innocent features, she has donned the selfishness and greed of Arisha with ease.

Returning to television after a hiatus, Amna Ilyas looks graceful in her avatar. Oozing sophistication, Amna looks stunning even in the plainest attire in the scenes. She has displayed Aliza’s gentleness, modesty, and elegance with great poise and we are already rooting for a happy ending for Aliza ahead.

We saw very little of Emmad Irfani. But so far- he looks like a dreamboat in the story.

With a topic so persuasive and a cast working its magic, Ek Jhoota Lafz Mohabbat is now on our-watch list. Let’s see what twists and turns the next episode will offer us!
