Veteran TV and film actress Durdana Butt passed away at the age of 83. The Aangan Terha actress was not just part of the elite group of actors who transitioned from one state-owned PTV channel to multiple ones but also gave their best to the field.

Born on May 9, 1938, in Lahore, Durdana began her acting career in the early 70s after completing her education. She was not just one of the most learned TV actresses but also did her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Toledo.

It was only after trying her hand at the theatre in the 1970s that began to take acting seriously. From Fifty Fifty, she started her journey with Television and died with her boots on, after a career spanning over forty years.

Her most famous roles included that of Sultana in Aangan Terha, BB in Tanhaiyaan, and other comedy shows including Showtime, Commercial Time, and was even active till her final years where he Amma in Ruswai became quite popular. She was amongst the top character actors in the country who could make any character her own and then give it her best.

She acted with the cream of PTV including Shakeel, Bushra Ansari, Saleem Nasir, Badar Khalil, Qazi Wajid, Imtiaz Ahmed, Shehnaz Sheikh, Marina Khan, and others while newer actors including Saba Qamar, Sana Javed, Mikaal Zulfiqar, and Zahid Ahmed also shared the screen with her on TV.

Apart from working in dramas, she also featured in films in recent years and was part of Balu Mahi, Parey Hut Love, and Ishq Positive to name a few.

She was suffering from cancer for quite some time and was on the ventilator for 8 days, before passing away on 12th August 2021. She will be remembered for her various roles on TV and in films and for entertaining the audience for over four decades.
