Once Upon a Time, there were two Pakistans, East, and West Pakistan. However, a lot of events caused differences between the two wings with only one wing remaining, and the other becoming Bangladesh. Fizza Ali Meerza and Nabeel Qureshi’s next film Khel Khel Mein will revolve around the ‘partition’ that happened within twenty five years of Pakistan’s creation and hopes to make the audience understand the reasons that caused the split.

Starring Sajal Aly and Bilal Abbas Khan in the lead, the trailer Khel Khel Mein was launched at the Beach Luxury Hotel on Monday, where the big wigs of the entertainment industry were present. From ARY Digital’s CEO Jerjees Seja to Senior Vice President ARY Films Irfan Malik, from renowned ad and film director Saqib Malik to famous TV host Madeha Naqvi, everyone was there to add color to an already picturesque location. With ARY associated with the film as a media partner, it is bound to do 'gold' which is the ARY way of promoting the film..

Add to that the presence of the cast and the crew and it turned out to be a rather glamorous event, which is huge for an industry that hasn’t been able to have any such gathering since the beginning of 2020. TV actress Zhalay Sarhadi began the proceedings by inviting the cast and the crew on stage and then asking them the right questions. With Manzar Sehbai, Sajal, and Bilal in attendance with the director and the producer (who are also the writers), they all told the audience that the main aim and objective of the film is to ask questions than just entertain the audience.

While Sheheryar Munawwar, Samina Ahmed, Farhan Ally Agha were missing from the event, the newcomers who will make their respective debuts were there. Famous film and TV actor Fahad Mustafa also made his appearance felt by gracing the occasion and wished the whole cast and crew ahead of the film’s release. Even the director Nabeel Qureshi disclosed that it was the first time he was working without Fahad Mustafa which was a different experience for him, and their next venture Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad will reunite them soon.

As for the trailer, it was so power-packed and aggressive that it made the audience wonder whether they were watching an international project or a Pakistani film! From the moment the trailer began to the very end, it looked fresh and asked questions about everything. Sajal Aly and Bilal Abbas’s magical pairing drew the audience into the trailer while Manzar Sehbai’s larger-than-life presence added grandeur to the frame.

From the trailer, it seems that the film is based on the Dhaka fall that took place fifty years back, where a few students make it their business to find out what really happened, and why. Sajal Aly plays the student who decides to use the opportunity to meet those ‘Pakistanis’ who are living in a no man’s land in Bangladesh and use that experience to highlight the cause of the rift. Bilal Abbas plays the male protagonist who doesn’t believe in his friend’s assessment but joins hands when he realizes that there is more to the Dhaka Fall than meets the eye.

Rana Kamran’s excellent cinematography gives you the thrills and the chills, especially those scenes where a massacre is depicted, and one must commend Nabeel Qureshi and Fizza Ali Meerza for another job well done. They picked artists from all over the country on merit, rather than on their popularity and that’s why you see Naveed Raza, and Mojiz Hasan in the film since they are two actors who look ‘filmi’ wherever they perform. Whether the film will be able to mend the relations between the two former brothers is something that the audience will find out once the film is released on 19th November in cinemas all across the country. But the trailer suggests that this film will start a debate for sure, one that will help in healing wounds than deepening them.
