A new wave of Pakistani dramas are picking up speed all across the realm of entertainment channels, and one that has caught out attention a bit more than the others is Qissa Meherbano Ka. Starring Mawra Hocane in an eponymous role, the drama took yet another turn in its second episode.
Here’s how this week fared…
While in the pilot episode we were introduced to a life sans happiness for Meherbano, this episode it takes the story further and clarifies quite a large chunk of obscurity left in our minds after the last one. Revealing the circumstances surrounding Meherbano’s marriage, the story serpentines around a tale where we see her elder brother’s marriage visibly in shambles due to secrets being divulged about his wife’s past relationship and her desire to resume that previous relationship - due to which he decides it’s better to end the marriage.
However, as the story goes forward it is revealed that Meherbano’s parents end up placing the blame directly on their son, and rather try to salvage the marriage by arranging Meherbano’s marriage to their daughter-in-law’s brother. Unfortunately, this does not bode well for Meherbano and after her nikkah, Meherbano’s brother and wife end up in a tenuous argument leading to their separation, and rendering Meherbano in a state of a questionable marriage, where she’s abandoned by her husband.
Putting things into perspective, the plight behind Meherbano’s life becomes apparent and proves that in fact, she is a victim of her family’s strained ties amidst their own selves. It also brings forth Abba as a vilified person. Now whether that would hold true in the future has to be seen.
On the other side, we also see Mehran’s (Zaviyar Naumaan Ijaz) growing interest in Meherbano becoming more strenuous for his family to accept. While this seems to be a bone of contention, it hints towards him playing a major role in where Meherbano’s journey will take her.
However, what we’re wondering though that if Meherbano’s story will only revolve around Mehran’s interest towards her — given that we are yet to see how Ahsan Khan ‘s character will come into her life and change it yet again. That also makes waiting for Ahsan Khan even more harder!
Overall, the episode builds on what we saw last week, and it takes it up a notch. The narrative is interesting albeit slow, but truly, each character seems to be getting meatier when it comes to their plot narratives. Be it Mawra Hocane or Zaviyar Nauman Ijaz, both leads have proven to be showing their mettle. Now what we have to see is how the next episode will fare given how we’re still missing out on a few characters.
